Matt Everingham is a music director, conductor, pianist and composer now based in the United States and originally from Ōtautahi/Christchurch, New Zealand. Since moving to the United States in 2019, Matt’s credits include productions of Next To Normal (Tibbits Opera House - BroadwayWorld Nominee for Best Music Direction) Mary Poppins, The Music Man, Little Shop of Horrors (Post Playhouse) and The Sound of Music (Northern Stage) alongside working in New York City as an audition pianist, accompanist and rehearsal pianist.
Most recently, Matt has worked for Royal Caribbean Entertainment as a rehearsal pianist in RCCL’s Miami Studios for productions of Hairspray (Symphony of the Seas) and Grease (Harmony/Independence of the Seas). New Zealand music direction credits include Sister Act (Showbiz Christchurch), Mum’s Choir, The Events (Court Theatre), Catch Me If You Can (Blackboard), The Last Five Years (Kindle), Ragtime, Working and Little Women at NASDA. As associate music director and pianist highlights include Les Misérables, Wicked, We Will Rock You, Mamma Mia, Evita, Phantom of the Opera and Spamalot with Showbiz Christchurch and Jesus Christ Superstar, Chicago and Legally Blonde at The Court Theatre where he also composed or arranged for In the Next Room (The Vibrator Play), Puss in Boots: The Musical, The Little Mermaid and Little Red Riding Hood. Matt also toured the USA as the artistic director and conductor of The Vocal Collective in March 2019, culminating with a performance in Carnegie Hall, New York City.
Matt holds a Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Laws with Honours from the University of Canterbury, and an ATCL piano performance diploma from Trinity College, London. As a composer, his works have been heard in London’s Westminster Abbey as well as in Europe, the United States and around New Zealand. Matt has also taught at the University of Canterbury School of Music, the National Academy for Singing and Dramatic Art and is currently an advanced keyboard and vocal instructor for School of Rock USA.
